Understanding SSDI And SSI

Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI)

Social Security Disability Insurance, is also known as SSDI or Title 2. A disabled claimant is eligible for SSDI if the person has worked 5 out of the 10 years before becoming disabled. The benefit amount is close to the person’s full retirement amount, and will remain in effect until full retirement age of 66. A claimant eligible for SSDI can avoid accepting the reduced benefit amount of early retirement at age 62, and obtain the higher full retirement amount at age 66. Obtain your personal benefit amount information online at www.socialsecurity.gov/myaccount.

Supplemental Security Income (SSI)

Supplemental Security Income, is also known as SSI or Title 16. A disabled claimant is eligible for SSI if the claimant and his/her family meet strict income and asset limits. Benefits for SSI are modest, $794 per month in Washington for 2021. The modest income support from SSI gives seniors and people with disabilities, who have limited income and resources, the ability to keep a roof over their heads and obtain needed medications.

Walking Bellevue and Renton Social Security Disability Applicants Through The Appeals Process

I am attorney Ruth I. Kimball and have been assisting Bellevue and Renton, Washington, residents with the Social Security Disability process for over 32 years. Prior to obtaining my law license, I acquired vast medical knowledge working as a hospital technologist and medical laboratory manager for 10 years — a huge asset for Social Security Disability cases.

If you have applied for benefits and your application was denied, I will sit down with you one-on-one, talk with you about requesting reconsideration, the appeals process and what’s required to increase your chances of success. I have handled over 365 Social Security Disability hearings, so I have the knowledge to help get you on the path to receiving benefits.
